Mission Statement Wireless Atlanta is an initiative launched by the City of Atlanta to partner with a service provider to deploy a citywide wireless broadband network. Wireless Atlanta will offer residents, visitors, and businesses the ability to access the Internet anytime and anywhere within the city. Mayor Shirley Franklin, named one of the top five mayors in the US by Time Magazine, cast a new vision for the city at the start of her second term. The Wireless Atlanta initiative will help achieve the Mayor's Vision for the City by: • Improving the Quality of Life : Through fixed and mobile access and applications, the network will improve life for Atlantans. Residents will be able to make better transportation decisions, further utilize Atlanta 's great cultural and educational institutions, and build better relationships in their communities. The low subscription price will ensure that everyone, regardless of economic status, can realize these benefits. • Promoting Tourism and Economic Development : Through location based services for visitors and convention attendees, an open architecture that lets Atlanta businesses develop and run innovative applications, and cooperation with redevelopment initiatives, the network will further Atlanta's vibrant economy. • Leapfrogging Current City Service Levels : Through applications in public safety and field workforce, the network will allow the city to serve its citizens with more efficiency and speed than ever before. Enhancing public safety capabilities and meeting the ever increasing concern over homeland security requires on demand access to critical information by first responders from anywhere and any time. RFP Documents and Updates The due date for sealed proposals passed on August 28, 2006. . All proposals submitted must be sealed, and time stamped in no later than 1:59 p.m. on the stated date.
