21 Study Areas

Approved Redevelopment Plans

The city has completed redevelopment plans for 15 Empowerment Zone neighborhoods and is currently working with community development corporations and other entities to implement various projects and aspects of the plans. Approved Plans include:

Butler/Auburn
Reynoldstown
Old Fourth Ward
Summerhill
Mechanicsville
English Avenue
Peoplestown
Castleberry Hill
Southside (NPU Y) –Joyland, Betmar-La Villa, South Atlanta, Lakewood Heights, Chosewood Park

In addition the city has completed redevelopment plans for the following corridors:

Stewart Avenue Corridor (Metropolitan Parkway)
Jonesboro Road Corridor
Simpson Road Corridor

Implementation projects are underway through various public funding sources and private initiatives. Projects include new housing, single-family housing and multi-family unit rehabilitation, new commercial and mixed-use development, and streetscape improvements.
