Councilman Maddox was elected to the council a quarter of a century ago and is affectionately referred to as the “dean” of the council. The Morehouse College graduate is a retired contract administrator for Lockheed Aeronautical Systems, where he worked for over 30 years. The councilman has taken a deep interest in neighborhood affairs. He established the Southwest Community Group. He helped revamp Atlanta’s Emergency Management System to make it more responsive and Mr. Maddox has served on committees of the National League of Cities and the Georgia Municipal Association. He has been involved with the Atlanta-Fulton Library Board, the Georgia Council of International Visitors, the Advisory Council for Community Friendship and the city’s Advisory Committee on International Relations. He has also been a leader of the Georgia Association of Black Elected Officials and the Southwest Mental Health Citizens Advisory Council. The councilman has been recognized by several groups, including awards from the Butler Street YMCA, the Boy Scouts, the Hillside Truth Center and a special award for his work on the Save Our American Resources project. |
